Dominican Republic takes part in UNESCO’s 43rd General Conference in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan.- The Dominican Republic had a strong presence at the historic 43rd General Conference of UNESCO, held for the first time outside Paris in 40 years and hosted by Uzbekistan in the city of Samarkand.

The Dominican delegation was led by Minister of Culture Roberto Ángel Salcedo, who represented the country in high-level debates. In his address, he reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to cultural diversity, heritage protection, the growth of creative industries, and the vital role of youth in cultural innovation. He also emphasized the need for more equitable international cooperation and stronger Caribbean participation in UNESCO’s strategic programs.

Ambassador Larissa Veloz Santana, the Dominican Republic’s Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, played a central role in aligning national priorities. She met with key stakeholders, participated in working committees, and strengthened partnerships within the multilateral system.

The delegation also included officials from the Ministry of Culture, the Dominican National Commission for UNESCO, and the Dominican missions in Uzbekistan and Russia, all contributing to technical and diplomatic coordination. Throughout the sessions, the Dominican Republic advocated for stronger cultural diversity, heritage protection, support for creativity, and cultural policies aligned with the 2030 Agenda.
