Santo Domingo.- The Labor Ministry’s National Salary Committee (CNS) on Fri. ordered a 18% increase to the minimum wage for workers of the national sugar industry.

The Committee however didn’t specify the amount of the new minimum wage, which is RD$10,000 for other sectors

The decision was agreed by labor and management, after Labor minister Winston Santos suggested to the CNS to grant a two-week term to union and business leaders, to seek a consensus.

In a statement director Felix Hidalgo praised the maturity and harmony, “which once again showed the representatives of the employer and worker sector before the search for an increase that is fair for both parties.”
