Dominicans must adopt a cybersecurity culture: official

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Telecom Institute (Indotel) president Jose del Castillo on Wed. announced an executive order to launch a national cybersecurity policy in September, as the baseline for response, design and define actions to prevent cyber crimes.

He said a Cyber ​​Security Incident Response Center (CSIRT) will be created, where all public and private institutions that could be affected by attacks in the web converge in a space coordinated with the relevant authorities.

He called on the population to create a national cybersecurity culture, for all people to be aware that they can become a target of attack via the Internet at any moment, since information and communication technology (ICT) is increasingly used by citizens every day.

Del Castillo made the announcement  in the business forum “Modern threats to security” hosted by the British Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (Britcham), to address the factors currently affecting financial security and cybersecurity as well as well as to the reputation and brands of companies through illicit trade in products and counterfeit medicines.
