Escarrer: “Dominican Republic is undoubtedly the tourist pearl of the Caribbean”
Punta Cana, DR.- The CEO of Meliá Hotels International, Gabriel Escarrer, assured that the commitment assumed by the current government of the Dominican Republic to be an example in environmental, social and corporate governance matters, has positioned the country as the “pearl without a doubt of the Caribbean.”
“To put in value, what many countries, including the Dominican Republic, can put in value, which is its heritage, its culture, its gastronomy, its people who are its main asset. Its legal security, its public-private collaboration and its environment. All this is what makes a winning cocktail,” he said.
He emphasized that the recovery of Dominican tourism is an example at the world level and he understands that the management made by the Government after the pandemic “was exemplary,” but the growth that is taking place in the country in all senses is the most sustainable thing there is.
“The recovery of tourism is not only sun and beach, but also everything related to culture, heritage, gastronomy, sports, films and concerts that are being made, and that shows that the recovery is strategic,” he reiterated.
Escarrer explained that the signing of the declaration of commitment to tourism sustainability by the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), the Association of Hotels and Tourism (Asonahores), Iverotel, and other entities, is a great commitment to advance even more in sustainable matters, according to Acento.
On the subject of corporate governance, he said that President Luis Abinader and Tourism Minister David Collado have always emphasized this direct contact between the public and private sectors, “as well as the legal security that has meant that many groups, including the Meliá Hotel, in the last four years, have invested more than 200 million, and have committed to a new investment of more than 200 to remodel Punta Cana.”
