Pedernales Seawall Project secures over RD$480 million for construction

Pedernales.- The long-awaited construction of the Pedernales boardwalk is pending final execution approval, despite the project having an allocated budget exceeding US$487.4 million under SNIP code 15588. Overseen by the Executive Committee of Infrastructures of Tourist Zones (Ceiztur) of the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), the boardwalk has been repeatedly announced since 2016, with delays pushing its latest suspension to March 2025 for unclear reasons.
The 2.6-kilometer development, officially named the “Reconstruction of the Maritime Front in the Municipality of Pedernales,” will feature eight zones, including a scenic promenade from the Pedernales River to Cabo Rojo Beach. Planned amenities include plazas, a viewing platform, sales areas, an amphitheater, restrooms, parking spaces, and security booths.
The project is divided into three lots:
-
Lot 1 (West Side): RD$187.1 million contract awarded to Dineba Diseños Interiores y Ebanistería SRL, covering 1.05 kilometers.
-
Lot 2 (East Side): RD$122.9 million contract with ICISRL International Civil Engineering, spanning 1.5 kilometers, including street improvements.
-
Lot 3 (Landscaping): Developed by Servicios Verdes y Paisajismo SRL for RD$68.3 million.
Despite funding and plans being in place, the start date remains uncertain due to ongoing delays.
