400 Mawozo Gang seizes Haitian customs post

Haiti.- Members of the 400 Mawozo gang have set fire to an armored vehicle belonging to the Haitian National Police (PNH) and taken control of the customs post in the Ganthier community, about 25 kilometers from the Jimaní border crossing with the Dominican Republic.

This area, near Port-au-Prince, has long been under the control of the 400 Mawozo gang.

The PNH has called for vigilance among civilians, urging them to avoid any negotiations that might create panic in the community. The Haitian police clarified that the burned armored vehicle had broken down and was parked for some time, ruling out the possibility that it was on patrol.

The PNH announced that it will maintain its security presence in Ganthier until Sunday, August 4, 2024, and will continue operations against the 400 Mawozo gang in the area.

Under the direction of Director General Rameau Normil, the PNH is intensifying efforts to pursue armed bandits, particularly in the Croix-des-Bouquets district, which has been occupied by criminal gangs for over two years.
