Haitian Prime Minister pledges 2025 elections

Port-au-Prince.- Haitian Prime Minister Garry Conille reaffirmed his commitment to holding general elections in November 2025 during a public address marking his first 100 days in office. He outlined plans to restore security, aid displaced citizens, and revitalize the economy, promising a newly elected government by February 7, 2026. Conille emphasized that these elections are critical for building a stronger, more resilient nation, but warned that the process would require significant reforms, hard work, and collective sacrifice.

The government has appointed nine members to the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), representing various societal groups, including Voodoo communities, religious organizations, and trade unions, though some key positions remain unfilled. These appointments are part of the preparation for the 2025 elections.

Conille also addressed Haiti’s severe institutional collapse, describing the country as being in a state of crisis comparable to nations in humanitarian emergencies. He cited corruption, political instability, and resource-deprived public institutions as key issues that have crippled governance. Despite the challenges, he urged solidarity and commitment to addressing Haiti’s longstanding poverty and insecurity, stressing the moral obligation to improve conditions for future generations.
