Dominican Republic and Belgium to lead global fight against synthetic drugs
New York.- President Luis Abinader, along with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander de Croo, has been appointed to spearhead efforts against synthetic drugs in the Caribbean and Europe. This decision comes as recognition of Abinader’s success in combating drug trafficking in the Caribbean region.
The announcement was made during the Global Coalition Summit on Synthetic Drugs, led by U.S. President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Around 25 world leaders attended the event, with the Dominican Republic selected to lead the fight against fentanyl in the Caribbean.
During the summit, both Abinader and de Croo were asked to share their experiences in tackling drug trafficking on a global scale. They were seated prominently alongside President Biden and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
