Dominicans abroad honored in “Tell Me Your Story” writing contest

Santo Domingo.- The Institute of Dominicans Abroad (INDEX), in partnership with Vimenca and Western Union, awarded winners of the second “Tell Me Your Story” contest, recognizing Dominican immigrants’ tales of resilience and success. First place went to Silvia Anabel Matos Rodríguez from Italy, followed by Josefina Castro La Paz from London in second place, and Keiri Fernández Mármol from Italy in third. They received $5,000, $3,000, and $1,500, respectively, during a virtual ceremony.

Carlos de la Mota, Vice Minister for Dominican Communities Abroad and INDEX Executive Director, praised participants for sharing stories that highlight the challenges, sacrifices, and triumphs of the Dominican diaspora. He emphasized the importance of preserving these narratives as part of the national identity. Giselle Marie Méndez Sued, Executive Vice President of Vimenca, reiterated the company’s commitment to connecting Dominican families and celebrating their heritage.

The awards ceremony, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Convention Center, also featured the release of a book compiling 11 selected stories from the contest, showcasing the dreams and struggles of Dominicans abroad. A jury of Dominican authors, selected by the Ministry of Culture, evaluated 88 submissions from Dominicans living in 16 countries, underlining the rich literary talent within the diaspora.
