Dominican company SOS Biotech shines at COP 16
Saudi Arabia.- Dominican company SOS Biotech gained international recognition at COP 16 in Saudi Arabia for its innovative contributions to sustainability. Under the theme “Our Land, Our Future,” the summit brought together global leaders to address pressing climate challenges, including soil restoration, food security, and drought management.
Engineer Andrés Bisonó León showcased SOS Biotech’s groundbreaking biorefinery model, which transforms invasive algae like sargassum into organic agricultural biostimulants. This innovation enhances crop productivity, reduces reliance on synthetic fertilizers, and improves soil health, turning a major environmental issue into a sustainable agricultural solution. The initiative also paves the way for regenerative and climate-resilient farming while positioning the Dominican Republic as a leader in blue biotechnology with potential for global exports in industries such as bioplastics, cosmetics, and animal feed.
At COP 16, SOS Biotech actively engaged in key discussions, including panels on land restoration and sustainability, and participated in the UNCCD G20 Global Land Initiative podcast. The company solidified partnerships with international organizations like the International Trade Centre, Youth Ecopreneurs community, and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification. Looking ahead, SOS Biotech plans to expand collaborations with Saudi Arabia and other nations, promoting regenerative resources and boosting the Dominican Republic’s global standing in sustainable innovation.
