Dominican film “Day Eight” shines globally ahead of premiere

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican film Día Ocho, inspired by the life of Canadian missionary priest Father Emiliano Tardif, has achieved significant recognition on the global stage, solidifying its place as a milestone in Dominican cinema. Directed by José Gómez and produced by Ángela Medina and Joan Monegro, the 90-minute film intertwines modern challenges like social media and family struggles with Father Tardif’s legacy of faith and healing.

The film has captivated audiences at prestigious festivals in France, Italy, and the United States, earning accolades such as Best Spiritual/Mystical Film at the World Film Festival, a nomination for Best Independent Screenplay, and awards for Best Young Actress and Best Latino/Hispanic Film. It will premiere on January 31 at the Chandler International Film Festival (CIFF) in Arizona and has also been selected for the Karnataka Film Festival, with a nomination for Best Feature Film Director.

Starring Juan Ángel as Father Tardif and Angeline Monegro as Yira Sandoval, a social media influencer seeking a miracle for her sister, the cast includes Fahdly Samira Jacobo, Marta González, and others. Written by Eudys Cordero, the film captures Father Tardif’s life of missionary service and transformative miracles, delivering a heartfelt message of hope and faith. Day Eight is set for theatrical release in April 2025.
