Dominican Embassy in Jamaica Honors Our Lady of Altagracia

Kingston, Jamaica.- The Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Jamaica recently celebrated a solemn Mass in honor of Our Lady of Altagracia, the spiritual protector of the Dominican people. Held at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Kingston, the ceremony was presided over by Archbishop Kenneth Richards and attended by members of the diplomatic corps, Dominican expatriates, and local dignitaries. Ambassador Angie Martínez emphasized the Virgin’s significance as a symbol of faith, identity, and unity for Dominicans worldwide, highlighting the embassy’s commitment to preserving Dominican traditions abroad.

A key achievement of Ambassador Martínez’s tenure has been the enthronement of Our Lady of Altagracia in the Montego Bay Cathedral, a milestone coinciding with the Virgin’s Canonical Coronation Centennial. This initiative provided a sacred space for the Dominican diaspora in Montego Bay, the city with the largest Dominican population in Jamaica. The ambassador described this accomplishment as a profound act of faith and identity, strengthening the spiritual and cultural ties between the Dominican Republic and Jamaica.
