Chef Tita highlights Dominican gastronomy and sustainability at FITUR 2025
Madrid.- Renowned Dominican chef Tita, ambassador of new Dominican cuisine and executive chef of Aguají restaurant, showcased her leadership in sustainable gastronomic tourism at FITUR 2025. During the panel “Gastronomic Tourism: Ibero-America as a Destination,” organized by the Union of Ibero-American Capital Cities (UCCI), she shared her work transforming gastronomy into a tool for social impact and community development.
Tita highlighted her IMA Foundation, which supports over 400 families and collaborates with 17 local producers to promote sustainability and cultural heritage. The foundation helps producers develop, label, and market their products locally and internationally. Tita emphasized the importance of storytelling through cuisine to preserve cultural roots and strengthen rural communities, noting the challenges she faced early in her career by prioritizing local ingredients over imported ones.
The event also introduced UCCI initiatives, including the “A Journey of Flavors” document to strengthen sustainable gastronomic value chains and a special edition of Ciudades Iberoamericanas magazine focused on gastronomic tourism. Experts at the panel agreed on the transformative potential of gastronomy for social and economic development. Tita concluded by celebrating Dominican cuisine’s international recognition, attributing its success to the dedication to local ingredients, traditions, and communities.
