Carolina Mejía calls for greater female representation in leadership roles
Panamá.- During the International Economic Forum Latin America and the Caribbean, organized by CAF, Mayor of the National District Carolina Mejía called for increased female participation in leadership roles. She emphasized that, despite progress in gender equality, women continue to face barriers in accessing positions of power. Mejía highlighted studies showing that when women are given leadership opportunities, they demonstrate strong decision-making abilities and commitment. She reaffirmed her dedication to supporting women through mentorship and collaboration.
Addressing gender disparities in leadership, Mejía criticized the persistent bias that limits women’s advancement. She urged male leaders to recognize and support female talent when making high-level appointments, stressing that real change requires collective effort. She also shared her experience as a politician and public servant, emphasizing transparency, hard work, and integrity as key principles in governance.
Mejía’s speech on female empowerment was widely recognized, earning her an award from the Institute for Political, Legal, and Social Training (ICAP). Her remarks underscored the importance of eliminating gender biases and fostering inclusive leadership in Latin America and the Caribbean.
