Antinarcotic agents seize around 5 metric tons of drugs in 2012

Santo Domingo.- The National Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) revealed Wednesday that it seized around 5 metric tons (10,000 kilos) of various types of drugs thus far this year, of which at least 8,300 kilos are of pure cocaine and 800 of marijuana.

The summary announced by DNCD president Rolando Rosado notes that the confiscations were the result of around 28,000 raids and searches.

Most of the narcotics, the report said, were seized in Santo Domingo province, with nearly 4,000 kilos of cocaine since January, followed by San Pedro, with 2,193.5, and La Romana with 720.8 kilos.

DNCD spokesman Roberto Lebron said 27,000 people were arrested, 96 percent of them men, including 550 Haitians, 22 Americans, 26 Spaniards, 17 Puerto Ricans, 15 Colombians, 15 French, 12 Cubans, 11 Venezuelans, 11 Italians, 9 Canadians, 9 Russians and 6 Dutch, among other nationalities.
