Lawsuit filed in case of drowning of child in one of the Caipi

The parents of the little boy who died last Friday in a Center for Integral Attention to Early Childhood (Caipi) have empowered a team of lawyers to take legal action against the personnel who were in charge of the little boy’s care.

Manuel de Castro Tavárez and Carleni Álvarez Muñoz, parents of Maikel Esmil Castro Álvarez, who was one year and nine months old, said they feel “full of questions” that they hope will be answered and that the real reason for the death of their son will be explained to them.

“Regarding the circumstances in which our son died, we have many questions. We expect clear, conclusive and objective answers from the investigation being carried out by the Public Prosecutor’s Office,” said Castro Tavárez, the child’s father.

The infant died drowned in a bucket of water, in the center of Integral Attention to Early Childhood (Caipi), in the Pueblo Nuevo sector of San Francisco de Macoris.

At a press conference yesterday morning, Monday, the parents of Maike Esmil expressed their confidence in justice for the satisfactory solution to this tragedy.

“Only the truth will emerge.”

Castro Tavarez said that he trusts in the investigation and asked that “only the truth emerges,” and if there are those responsible, they be identified and brought to justice to answer for their deeds. The parents hope that the investigations will determine and inform them “in case (the child) has been abused, mistreated, beaten, and that it will be determined that his death was due to negligence or imprudence of his caregivers.”

The father also asked the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the executive director of the National Institute of Integral Attention to Early Childhood (Inaipi), Besaida Manola Santana de Baez, to reveal the names of those who had responsibility for the care of his son.

“Even in the midst of the pain, we will be following up on the entire investigation process, in search of clarification, and to know the circumstances in which our baby lost his life,” they added.

The infant’s parents suspect that this case “was due to negligence at the nursery.”

Besaida Manola Santana de Baez, the executive director of the National Institute of Integral Attention to Early Childhood (Inaipi), has assured the child’s parents that there will be sanctions against those responsible for this tragedy.

Yesterday, she traveled to San Francisco to offer her condolences to Manuel de Castro Tavárez and Carleni Álvarez Muñoz, parents of the child Maikel Emil.
