Dominican pleads guilty to US$65.0M tax scam in New Jersey

New York.- Dominican Alejandro Javier, 51, extradited to New Jersey from Canada earlier this year, pleaded guilty in Newark Federal Court in to conspiracy to steal US$65 million from the Government, through false tax returns for illegal rebates, said prosecutor Paul J. Fishman.

Javier and others are had been charged with submitting 8,000 fraudulent tax returns to claim more than US$65 million in tax refunds, officials said.

Fishman said Javier, who scammed the Government out of US$12 million, was on the lam until detained by Canadian authorities while trying to sneak into that country.
