Economists stress need for tax reform

Santo Domingo.- Several economists have suggested that the government optimize its national budget to maintain operations and restructure the recently withdrawn tax reform proposal. They believe that through consensus, the reform could be reintroduced and approved to reduce national debt.

Economists Antonio Ciriaco and Henry Hebrard emphasized that the government will inevitably need to resume discussions on tax reform. Samuel Sena, president of the Council for Economic and Social Development of Santo Domingo (Codessd), recommended that these discussions take place within the Economic and Social Council to ensure that both business associations and civil society can contribute technical proposals. Haivanjoe NG Cortiñas supported budget optimization as a better alternative to the previous reform.

Agree. The fiscal reform proposal needs to be reconsidered and restructured, not abandoned.
