Clinton and Abinader with the Rainieri’s at Summit of the Americas held in Punta Cana

Punta Cana became the venue for the 30th anniversary of the Summit of the Americas, held this year, 2024, at Puntacana Resort

The President of the Republic attended the event, Luis Abinader, and former presidents such as Bill Clinton of the United States, Laura Chinchilla and José María Figueres Olsen from Costa Rica, and Ernesto Pérez Balladares from Panama.

In addition, foreign ministers, prominent academics from all over the region, and the national bank met under the organization of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mirex). They are hosted by Frank Rainieri’s family, Grupo Puntacana’s founder.

“In 2025, we are going to relaunch this summit to send a clear message: Latin America and the United States must be partners in development. In the Dominican Republic we continue to grow, with tourism expanding and an economy constantly improving. We are committed to reducing poverty and continuing to promote economic development,” said President Abinader.

The Summit of the Americas also included the participation of prominent intellectuals such as Jorge Castañeda, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, and Carlos Ominami, former senator and former Minister of Economy of Chile. Both presented an analysis of the achievements made in the previous nine editions of the summit, serving as a basis for current debates and defining central themes for 2025.

It is recalled that the summit was born to strengthen cooperation between the continent’s countries and promote political, economic, and social dialogue.
