BiggerAbinader and Macron discuss Haiti, infrastructure, and bilateral cooperation
Nice, France.- Dominican President Luis Abinader and French President Emmanuel Macron met this morning in Nice to strengthen bilateral ties and discuss key regional and national issues. The 30-minute meeting focused on the crisis in Haiti, France’s interest in fully financing the Santo Domingo metropolitan train, and support for the Dominican Republic’s Greater Santo Domingo (GSD) transportation plan.
President Macron praised the excellent state of relations between the two nations and confirmed France’s commitment to collaborating on Dominican infrastructure projects. On the Haitian situation, Abinader urged France and the broader international community to become more actively involved in promoting stability. Both leaders voiced support for the efforts of Kenyan forces and the international security mission operating in Haiti.
Macron also expressed interest in cooperating on security and defense matters in the Dominican Republic, as well as on tackling the environmental issue of sargassum, which impacts both the Dominican Republic and French Caribbean territories.
President Abinader invited Macron to the Dominican Republic for the inauguration of the Santiago Monorail in early 2026, an invitation Macron welcomed. The meeting took place at the Palais des Rois Sardes in Nice, during the Third United Nations Conference on the Ocean.
