Pride Caravan parades through Santo Domingo
Santo Domingo.- The LGBTIQ+ community of the Dominican Republic held its annual Pride Caravan on Sunday in Santo Domingo, transforming the capital into a vibrant display of diversity, resistance, and celebration. The event, now in its 18th edition, served as both a joyful expression of identity and a pointed reminder of the ongoing fight for equal rights.
Daniel Benítez, executive director of the Friends Always Friends Volunteer Network (Revasa), highlighted that while Pride is a time of celebration, it remains a courageous act in a country where discrimination persists. He emphasized that the march, founded in 2007, has become a longstanding tradition of visibility, resistance, and hope for the LGBTIQ+ community.
The caravan wound its way through key neighborhoods, including the Colonial Zone, as participants waved rainbow flags and danced to music under the intense summer sun. The day concluded with a lively closing party featuring DJs on the Santo Domingo seafront.
