Holiday Inn Santo Domingo Airport hotel construction halted
Santo Domingo.- The construction of the Holiday Inn Santo Domingo Airport hotel near Las Americas International Airport remains stalled due to a dispute between the Boca Chica Mayor’s Office and the hotel developers over the payment of a land use certification fee. Mayor Ramón Candelaria explained that the developers have refused to pay the required 10 million pesos for the permit, which is essential to start construction on the $22 million project.
Candelaria clarified that Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom), the airport concessionaire, is not directly involved with the hotel’s construction and that the benefits from its contract renegotiation with the government do not extend to this new hotel. He emphasized that, unlike social projects, this commercial development will operate for decades and must comply with municipal tax obligations.
The planned hotel will have 150 rooms over four floors, featuring bars, restaurants, coworking spaces, a gym, swimming pool, business center, event rooms, and parking. Construction was slated to begin in late 2024, but the disagreement has halted preliminary works near the airport.
Despite the impasse, Mayor Candelaria remains open to dialogue, inviting the developers to seek a mutually viable solution to move the project forward.

I wonder how common a 10 million peso permit is in this country? Or does Ramon have dollar signs in his eyes?
