Abinader inaugurates Baní Beltway to boost southern development
Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader inaugurated the Baní Beltway this Thursday, a 19.8-kilometer road built with a 7.7 billion peso investment. Designed to accommodate about 15,000 vehicles daily, the bypass will divert traffic from downtown Baní, reducing congestion.
Abinader described the project as “an act of justice” for a region long awaiting large-scale road solutions. He emphasized that it will not only improve traffic flow but also generate jobs and attract new investments, helping unlock the South’s economic potential.
The Baní Beltway is part of a broader infrastructure strategy that includes the Azua Beltway and the Barahona-Enriquillo Highway. Abinader highlighted that these works form an integrated development plan for historically neglected areas, adding that the “Pintura” overpass in Santo Domingo will be completed in October, cutting travel time to the Deep South by up to an hour.
