Tornado in San Juan causes widespread power outages

Santo Domingo.- Edesur Dominicana reported that a tornado in the San Juan area toppled six power poles along the 69-kilowatt San Juan II–Las Matas de Farfán line, causing outages at the Las Matas and Elías Piña substations. Additionally, three more poles fell on a nearby circuit due to heavy rains and strong winds.

The incident, which occurred around 4:52 p.m., also created roadblocks from fallen poles and cables. As a result, electricity was cut off for residents in multiple communities, including Comendador, El Guayabo, Pinzón, Los Rinconcitos, Guaroa, Macacía, El Pino, Cristo Salvador, Villa Hortensia, Cerro del Chivo, Galindo, Delicia, Los Mangos, Villa Progreso, El Llano, El Rebozo, El Portón, Barrio Nuevo, Matayaya, Los Yareyes, Olivero, Los Barrancones, Los Jobos, Media Luna, Barrero, Potro Blanco, Potroso, Pedro Santana, Bánica, Sabana Larga, Hato Viejo, Higüero, Sabana Mula, and Sabana Cruz.

Edesur crews are working to restore service and clear the affected areas as quickly as possible.
