Ministry of Culture advances multiple cultural development projects
Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Culture, through the National Directorate of Monumental Heritage, is carrying out restoration and improvement projects across the country to preserve and promote Dominican cultural heritage. Key initiatives include repairing the roof of the historic Boca de Nigua Sugar Mill in San Cristóbal, renovating the National Crafts Center (Cenadarte) in Ensanche La Fe, and restoring the exterior of the Narciso González Cultural Center in Villa Juana.
The Boca de Nigua project involves removing the deteriorated 1970s roof and installing a new one, ensuring the monument’s structural integrity is preserved. These efforts follow a technical study and 3D modeling of the mill aimed at supporting its UNESCO heritage nomination, conducted in coordination with the San Gregorio de Nigua Mayor’s Office.
Additional interventions include preparing Plaza de la Cultura for the 2025 International Book Fair, completing the first phase of Cenadarte’s renovation, and painting the exterior walls and metalwork of the Narciso González Cultural Center.
