The Director of Livestock, Abel Madera, presents a check.
The General Directorate of Livestock (Digega) has completed the first phase of distributing checks to pig producers affected by African Swine Fever (ASF), as part of the Government’s compensation plan.
The Director of Livestock, Abel Madera, reported that he delivered approximately RD$12 million to pig farmers in various areas of the country yesterday.
He emphasized that this first phase represents a fulfilled commitment to producers, and the program will continue until it covers all affected areas.
He stated that “our goal is to ensure that no producer is left without Government support. ASF is a challenge we have faced responsibly, and with this compensation, we ensure that pig farmers can recover and continue contributing to national agricultural development.” The official urged pig farmers to stay informed and comply with established protocols without exception.
Madera indicated that the initiative has a total investment of RD$110 million, benefiting 19 producers with RD$6,592,000. It is part of the country’s comprehensive efforts to eradicate the disease, strengthen biosecurity, and protect domestic pork production. With this first phase, the Government reaffirms its commitment to the agricultural sector, guaranteeing not only compensation but also the necessary resources to support it.
