Santo Domingo.- Banco BHD, in collaboration with the Dominican Consulate in New York, launched the “Origins of Excellence” campaign to celebrate outstanding Dominican students residing in the United States. The initiative recognizes young people with exceptional academic achievements and strong participation in culture, sports, and community service.
The campaign centers on an audiovisual production that follows 30 students visiting the Dominican Republic for the first time, exploring their roots through meetings with national leaders, visits to historical landmarks, and cultural immersion. The experience highlights their connection to Dominican identity and values despite growing up abroad.
The initiative’s presentation, held in Santo Domingo, gathered key authorities, including Mayor Carolina Mejía, Vice Ministers Opinio Díaz and Celinés Toribio, and top executives from Banco BHD. The first edition of Origins of Excellence took place in June, when the 30 selected students traveled with a parent or guardian to participate in educational and cultural activities, including visits to the National Palace, National Congress, and their families’ hometowns.
This is a genuinely impressive and strategic initiative by Banco BHD. The fact that the students met national leaders and visited the National Palace and Congress shows that the initiative was not just symbolic but institutional. It validates these young people as part of the nation’s future, even if they were raised abroad. It even could be a platform to foster investment or professional return of diaspora talent.
