Edeeste regularizes more than 22,000 customers and dismantles nearly 8,000 illegal connections
Distributor technicians are working to improve service.
In September, the Eastern Electricity Distribution Company (Edeeste) carried out an extensive program of technical interventions at various points within its concession area, resulting in the normalization of service for more than 22,000 customers, the dismantling of approximately 8,000 illegal connections, and the addition of more than 4,100 new users.
These actions, carried out under the 2025 Strategic Plan for Loss Control and Reduction, aim to strengthen the electrical infrastructure, optimize service quality, and foster a culture of responsible and transparent consumption.
According to a statement issued by the institution, during the campaign, 27,007 technical inspections and various improvement actions were carried out in the areas of Santo Domingo Este, Villa Mella, Monte Plata, San Pedro de Macorís, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, La Romana, and Higüey, as well as in areas of the National District. The work carried out included correcting anomalies, normalizing supplies, and reinforcing the electrical networks.
In La Romana and Higüey, 2,117 meters were installed as part of the circuit management and telemetry program, ensuring greater technical control and accurate measurement of energy consumption. In addition, mini-projects were developed in critical areas, such as Villa Ortega (Hato Mayor), Los Multis del Seibo, and the SEIB01 circuit, with a focus on eliminating irregularities and strengthening the electrical grid.
Large Customers and Energy Recovery
As part of this comprehensive plan, Edeeste achieved the normalization of 1,438 large customers in its concession area, including industries, tourist complexes, hospitals, public institutions, and shopping centers.
These actions enabled the recovery of 5.78 GWh of energy, equivalent to an economic impact of more than RD$203 million, by correcting irregularities, updating metering equipment, and ensuring that consumption accurately reflects the operational reality of each facility.
The program included technical verification, meter replacement, and the incorporation of macro-metering, telemetry, and remote control technologies, tools that enhance transparency, facilitate the detection of energy leaks, and enable more efficient consumption management.
Commitment to sustainability and equity
Edeeste reiterated its commitment to operational efficiency, legality, and sustainability of the electrical system, reaffirming that these actions are essential to guarantee reliable and fair service for all users.
The company urged the population to avoid illegal connections, as these affect the stability of the system, pose a risk to community safety, and hinder the country’s development.
