Fabio Jorge and Gaspar Polanco to surrender to U.S. authorities

Santo Domingo.- Fabio Jorge and Gaspar Antonio Polanco, both accused of drug trafficking into the United States, are expected to voluntarily surrender to U.S. authorities in the coming days to face federal charges.

According to reports, Polanco plans to turn himself in this Thursday, while Jorge remains in the Dominican Republic but could also be taken into U.S. custody soon. The indictment accuses both men of conspiring to traffic cocaine into the U.S., with Jorge allegedly concealing shipments within exports from free trade zones. Jorge, who was appointed in 2020 as an advisor to the Executive Branch on free trade zones and dismissed in May 2025, currently serves as treasurer of the Águilas Cibaeñas baseball team.

Polanco, a former bodyguard for ex-president Hipólito Mejía and former employee of the National District Mayor’s Office, faces similar charges. Under U.S. law, both defendants could face sentences ranging from a mandatory minimum of ten years to life imprisonment, in addition to fines of up to ten million dollars.
