Dominican Republic elected Pro Tempore President of CLASI for 2026–2027

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic has been elected Pro Tempore President of the Latin American Committee on Internal Security (CLASI) for the 2026–2027 term, marking a significant diplomatic and strategic achievement for the country and the region. The designation recognizes the nation’s institutional and technical capacity to lead regional cooperation on internal security and justice issues.

The election reflects confidence from the European Union in the Dominican Republic’s efforts in institutional modernization, democratic governance, and combating organized crime. CLASI, supported by the EU’s EL PAcCTO program, unites Latin American countries committed to coordinating policies on security, justice, and crime prevention.

The Vice Ministry of Internal Security will represent the Dominican Republic, coordinating inter-institutional policies, liaising with international organizations, and defining strategic priorities for the region. The Pro Tempore Presidency will emphasize multilateral alliances, evidence-based security models, innovation, and human rights. This leadership role will expand collaboration with the EU and CLASI member countries, facilitating technical assistance, experience exchange, and sustainable security projects.
