Casa del Cordón hosts guided tour honoring five greats of Dominican art

Santo Domingo.- The Casa del Cordón Taíno Cultural Center, an initiative of Banco Popular Dominicano, will host the guided tour “Five Greats in Dominican Art: Jaime, Darío, Paul, Gilberto, and Eligio” this Saturday, October 18, at 11:00 a.m. The event invites the public to rediscover the legacy of five prominent figures in Dominican visual art — Jaime Colson, Darío Suro, Paul Giudicelli, Gilberto Hernández Ortega, and Eligio Pichardo.

The tour will be led by Gamal Michelén, architect, art critic, and current Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage, who will offer an in-depth look at the contributions of these artists to 20th-century Dominican art. Their works are featured in the exhibition “Masters of the Visual Arts,” part of Banco Popular’s collection, currently on display in the center’s temporary exhibition hall.

During the visit, attendees will explore the techniques, influences, and social themes that shaped the artists’ work and laid the foundation for modern Dominican art. The Casa del Cordón also features the permanent exhibit “Our First Settlers,” which showcases 350 pre-Hispanic artifacts donated by the García Arévalo Foundation. The center is open Tuesday to Sunday, from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., with more information available at www.casadelcordon.com or on Instagram @casadelcordon.
