MIREX announces postponement of Summit of the Americas
Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) announced the postponement of the Tenth Summit of the Americas, which was scheduled to take place in the Dominican Republic, following a careful assessment of the regional context. The decision was made in coordination with key partners such as the United States, the Organization of American States (OAS), and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
According to the official statement, the postponement seeks to ensure more effective outcomes from the summit amid current challenges to hemispheric dialogue and the effects of recent weather events that have impacted several Caribbean nations. The Dominican government confirmed that the resources already invested will be maintained and redirected toward the rescheduled event, which will also coincide with other regional meetings planned in the country.
MIREX emphasized that since the Dominican Republic was chosen as host in 2022, it has worked to meet all organizational requirements established by the OAS. The ministry added that this delay will provide time for broader consultations on the new date and to include recently elected democratic governments. The statement reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to multilateralism, regional cooperation, and integration as guiding principles of its foreign policy.
