Body of Norwegian man recovered by Navy in Cabarete

Puerto Plata.- Naval authorities recovered the body of a Norwegian citizen on Monday afternoon in the waters off Cabarete, near the Velero Hotel in the municipality of Sosúa, Puerto Plata province. The Dominican Republic Navy reported that the discovery took place around 2:40 p.m., when interceptor boat Elnath located the body approximately two miles from the shore.

The victim was identified as 49-year-old Jonas Ovedal, a Norwegian national residing in Tenares. His remains were taken to the Puerto Plata dock, where forensic pathologist Dr. Miguel Cuevas examined the body in the presence of judicial representatives.

According to the medical report, Ovedal died from drowning. The body was later transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) for an autopsy, while authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
