Former President Hipólito Mejía to attend the 10th Presidential Dialogue at MDC

Miami, Florida.- Miami Dade College (MDC) will host the 10th edition of the Presidential Dialogue on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at its Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami. This year’s forum, titled “Latin America and the End of Its Dictatorships,” will feature the participation of former Dominican President Hipólito Mejía and other former heads of state, alongside academics, democratic leaders, and international figures. The event is organized by the Democratic Initiative of Spain and the Americas (Grupo IDEA), in collaboration with MDC and Diario Las Américas, reaffirming its role as a key platform for dialogue on democracy in the region.

MDC President Madeline Pumariega highlighted the institution’s ongoing commitment to democracy, freedom, and education as tools to strengthen just and participatory societies. The conference will explore critical topics such as Latin America’s political transitions, the rise of transnational crime, and the foundations for a renewed regional democratic pact.

Distinguished participants include Luis Almagro (former OAS Secretary General), José María Aznar (former Spanish Prime Minister), Laura Chinchilla (former Costa Rican President), Andrés Pastrana and Álvaro Uribe (former Colombian Presidents), and María Corina Machado, Nobel Peace Prize 2025 laureate, among others. The program will include keynote sessions and thematic panels addressing globalization, narcoterrorism, and geopolitical challenges, concluding at noon with the official closing of the 10th Presidential Dialogue.
