Wrap up warm tonight! The coldest weather of the season is coming this weekend: temperatures by location
Dominicans seeking respite from the heat will be able to enjoy much cooler temperatures in the coming hours. Weather analyst Jean Suriel reported that Saturday night and early Sunday morning will see the most significant cold spell of the weekend, especially in mountainous areas and in the Cibao region.
Suriel explained that, in general terms, the weather will be very cool between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. over the next few days, due to the arrival of the first polar air mass of the season in the north of the Dominican Republic. This phenomenon will cause lower-than-usual temperatures in much of the country.
Adding to this scenario is the fact that the fourth cold front remains stationary in the north of the Caribbean, while another frontal system is advancing towards the region, reinforcing the drop in temperature.
Expected minimum temperatures
The meteorologist detailed the minimum values that could be recorded between tonight and Sunday:
- Pico Duarte: -1 °C
- Valle Nuevo: 2 °C
- Constanza: 13 °C
- Manabao: 13 °C
- Hondo Valle: 14 °C
- El Cercado: 15 °C
- Polo (Barahona): 15 °C
- Jarabacoa: 16 °C
- Ocoa: 16 °C
- Padre Las Casas: 16 °C
- San José de las Matas: 16 °C
- San Juan: 17 °C
- Las Matas de Farfán: 17 °C
- Moca: 19 °C
- Santo Domingo: 20 °C
Origin of the drop
According to Suriel, this cold spell is associated with two cold fronts that have affected the United States over the past five days, resulting in sub-zero temperatures in several states. This polar air continues to advance towards the Caribbean, and its influence will be felt more strongly tonight in the Dominican Republic.
