Four provinces remain on alert The weather will take a turn this Sunday: stable morning and turbulent afternoon
Sunday’s weather will be marked by changing conditions. Although the morning will remain mostly sunny with little rainfall, significant increases in cloud cover, showers, and thunderstorms are expected in several regions of the country during the afternoon.
The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) reported that rainfall decreased across much of the country during the early morning hours. Partly cloudy skies with no significant precipitation are expected for the first few hours of the day.
However, the outlook will change as evening falls. Indomet forecasts cloud development accompanied by downpours, thunderstorms, and gusty winds that will affect parts of La Altagracia, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Monseñor Nouel, San José de Ocoa, Santiago, Espaillat, Santiago Rodríguez, Dajabón, San Juan, Barahona, Independencia, Elías Piña, Pedernales, San Cristóbal, and the northern part of Greater Santo Domingo.
These rains could continue until the early hours of the night.
According to the agency, these conditions are due to the impact of a surface trough and the cloud remnants of the frontal system, which remain close to the country.
As a preventive measure, Indomet and COE maintain a weather alert for possible urban flooding in the provinces of Samaná, Santiago, Puerto Plata, and Monseñor Nouel.
