INTABACO begins distribution of seedlings for the 2025–2026 harvest

Santiago de los Caballeros.- The Tobacco Institute of the Dominican Republic (INTABACO) announced that it is producing 15 million tobacco seedlings for the 2025–2026 harvest. According to the institution’s director, Iván Hernández Guzmán, this initiative will support the planting of more than 10,000 tareas—around 1.2 hectares—and aims to provide low-cost seedlings to small producers.

As part of the effort, Hernández Guzmán began distributing 160,000 seedlings of the IT-154 variety at a subsidized price of 35 pesos each, which is 61% lower than the market rate. The subsidy is made possible through support from the Presidency.

He highlighted that the IT-154 variety offers high-quality leaves with superior texture, aroma, and flavor, and is being produced in partnership with the company Transplanta.
