Dominican government activates holiday security plan
Santo Domingo.- The government will launch its Christmas and New Year security plan this Wednesday, doubling the number of personnel deployed compared to last year. Interior and Police Minister Faride Raful said that police and military units will intensify their presence nationwide to protect citizens and prevent social disturbances during the holiday season.
Last year’s “Operativo Garantía de la Paz en Navidad” mobilized more than 19,000 members of the National Police and the Armed Forces. This year’s operation expands on that effort, with reinforced patrols in place from December 3, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. through January 10, 2025. Preventive actions, investigations, and intelligence monitoring will operate 24/7 across highways, avenues, tourist areas, and residential zones to strengthen public safety.
The plan instructs regional directorates and their units—supported by Dicrim and Dintel—to carry out preventive patrols aimed at deterring crimes such as theft, noise pollution, and traffic incidents. Digesett will also work to prevent road accidents and maintain orderly traffic flow as thousands of citizens travel across the country for the holidays.
Multiple institutions will support the operation, including the Attorney General’s Office, Public Health, Environment, DNCD, State Economic Dining Halls, municipalities, and the Emergency Operations Center. The 911 system, Civil Defense, Dominican Red Cross, and Fire Departments will also remain active to ensure citizen protection throughout the festive period.
