USAID project improves sanitation systems in northwest

Montecristi, Dominican Republic.- The US Agency for International Development (USAID) on Thursday announced the Montecristi (northwest) sanitation systems Retrofitting Project, starting at two bateyes to establish several sanitation systems for urban waste water with passive, cheap and easy to implement techniques, at a cost of RD$6.0 million.

The initiative aims to benefit 250 families of the bateyes Isabel and Maguaca, which belong to the project Cruz de Manzanillo (Palo Verde).

In a statement, USAID said the project is expected to sustainably improve living conditions of families and improve access to drinking water and sanitation and reduce contamination of the bateyes. “This will be done as part of USAID and REDDOM Northwest Region’s Food Safety and Sanitation, with the collaboration of the Cruz de Manzanillo Project.”
