Free zones’ 10.6% growth is the economy’s second highest to May

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s free zones posted the economy’s second highest growth from January to May 2018, with 10.6%, according to the National Export Free Trade Zones Council (CNZFE).

It cited the Central Bank’s Preliminary Results of the Dominican Economy for that period, which indicates that the growth of free zones was higher than that of the Dominican economy, which stood at 6.6%, surpassed only by the construction sector.

In a statement, the CNZFE said exports from the free zone sector “have maintained their dynamic rate of growth and strengthening”, according to Customs Agency statistics, which indicate that during the first five months posted a 12.1% growth compared with same quarter of 2017, with a total value of US$2.4 billion.
