170,000 autos fail to renew tags; face the tow truck

Santo Domingo.- The Internal Taxes Directorate (DGII) on Mon. said around 170,000 vehicles – or 13% of the total- failed to renew their tag registration sticker within the deadline established by authorities.

The agency warned that motorists who failed to renew face the confiscation of their vehicles as of Tuesday by Transport Directorate (Digesett) officers.

Vehicle owners must also pay a RD$1,500 surcharge for failing to comply within the deadline.

The DGII said as of Monday afternoon it had collected RD$1.9 billion of its goal of RD$2.1 billion from the sticker renewal tax.
