Police announce 3rd arrest since U.S. Embassy’s travel warning

Santo Domingo.- The Police arrested four alleged assailants caught while casing a citizen along the San Isidro Highway in an SUV and two motorcycles it affirms were being used as lookouts and seized two guns.

The police said the detainees William Agustin Diaz, 43, Pablo de la Cruz Rojas, 35; Hanser Araujo Cabral, 28, and Julio Cesar Rosario, 39 are all members of a gang of highway robbers that operates on the busy thoroughfares of Las Americas, San Isidro and other area roads.

It the group caught was under police surveillance after complaints filed against them near the area which houses the famous “love “nest” motels on the San Isidro highway. It said three of the suspects have a criminal record.

The police also seized a red Honda Element SUV, plate number G277022 as well as aTaurus and Beretta pistol, both unlicensed; one black Royer AX100 motorcycle, plate number 501204, and one black Jenching AX100, without plate.

The arrest of the alleged highway robbers is the third since the U.S. Embassy issued a travelers warning on nighttime assaults.
