Top official warns against smuggling fireworks across Haiti border
Santo Domingo.- The Interior and Police Ministry will heighten surveillance in border areas to prevent the smuggling of fireworks from Haiti, and which have been illegal in Dominican Republic since 2004.
Interior and Police minister José Ramón Fadul said strict instructions were issued to the agency’s provincial supervisors and regional coordinators, to work together with border authorities and Immigration inspectors.
The official said statistics show that fireworks smuggling traditionally increases in October, November and December. "We’re not going to allow this situation, the Interior and Police Ministry will be strong against those caught smuggling fireworks and proceed against those responsible."
