Agency fines Blue Mall manager for bungled raffle

Santo Domingo.- Consumer protection agency (Pro Consumidor) director Anina Del Castillo on Monday said the management of the Blue Mall hotel-plaza was fined 60 minimum wages (near RD$500,000) for violating the law on sweepstakes, with the ‘Blue Mall Christmas Factory’ drawing.

She said the Administrator B-Max held the raffle slated for February 14, but announced the winner two weeks before that date, without the customers’ knowledge.

The company told customers that for every RD$4,000 consumed in any of its establishments, including restaurants, cinema and game rooms, they would receive an electronic ticket to participate in the raffle for a Land Rover Discovery Sport 2016.

The official said from now on the bases of those competitions must be registered in her agency.
