Most of those displaced by Hurricane Fiona return home

Santo Domingo, DR Ninety-six percent of those sheltered by the passage of Hurricane Fiona have already returned to their homes, according to the preliminary report of the Emergency Operations Center (COE). Although this is a preliminary report, the COE has indicated a series of measures and situations some three days after Fiona's departure from Dominican territory. Regarding displacements, the report indicates that 92 percent of the shelters have been closed and 72 percent of the people mobilized have returned to their homes. In reference to basic services, it indicates that 100 percent of the electric transmission lines have been recovered; 70.33 percent of the electric service has been recovered; 28 percent of the aqueducts have been recovered and 38 percent of the affected users have had their water service reestablished. Although the hurricane has passed, the effects of the hurricane still prevail in Dominican territory, for which reason the COE maintains a yellow alert in 17 provinces and a green alert in 10.
