This Thursday, the Ministry of the Interior and Police announced that it had turned down a permit application by “a group of pro-Haitian nationalists” who wanted to hold a public parade in Parque Independencia, in the National District. The press announcement from the organization stated that the event will go from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The note stated, “The ministry’s decision comes amid the delicate circumstances in the neighboring country of Haiti.”

According to the government agency, “the Dominican Government stands solid in its position of unlimited obedience to the Constitution and current legislation.” In a news release from the Interior and Police, “the question of the country’s sovereignty and the protection of the best national interests will never be raised during the administration of President Luis Abinader.”

The group that made the permit request did not enter the park. To stop the rally and National Police officers from arriving, a group of nationalists went to the location.
