Constitutional Court annuls DNI Law 1-24

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic’s Constitutional Court (TC) annulled Law 1-24, which established the National Intelligence Directorate (DNI), citing unconstitutionality in its ruling TC/0767/24 on December 6, 2024. This decision comes in response to a direct action of unconstitutionality filed by opposition parties, including the People’s Force (FP), Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), and Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD).

The court declared the law invalid due to its failure to comply with the legislative procedure outlined in Article 112 of the Constitution, which governs the approval process for organic laws. By not adhering to these constitutional requirements, Law 1-24 was deemed incompatible with the nation’s supreme legal framework.

This ruling underscores the importance of strict compliance with constitutional provisions in legislative processes, reflecting the judiciary’s role in upholding legal and procedural standards in the Dominican Republic.
