President Abinader thanks Senator Marco Rubio for praising Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader expressed gratitude to U.S. Senator Marco Rubio, recently nominated for Secretary of State, for acknowledging the Dominican Republic’s progress compared to other nations in the region during a U.S. Senate hearing.

Through a post on the social platform X, Abinader commended Rubio’s remarks and emphasized the need for a “collective solution” to Haiti’s ongoing crisis. “I thank Marco Rubio for his positive mention of the Dominican Republic during his hearing before the U.S. Senate and for addressing the pressures our country and the region face due to Haiti’s instability. A collective solution is essential,” Abinader stated.

Rubio, speaking before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, highlighted the Dominican Republic as a nation “doing things right” and deserving continued U.S. support. He praised the country’s swift recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, driven by a revitalized tourism sector and effective management in other areas. However, Rubio also pointed out the challenges posed by Haiti’s instability, calling it “a real challenge” for the Dominican Republic and the broader region.
