NYC Mayor honors Jet Set victims during visit to tragedy site

Santo Domingo.- New York City Mayor Eric Adams paid tribute to the victims of the Jet Set nightclub tragedy, where a roof collapse on April 8 claimed at least 226 lives and left over 189 injured. Visiting the site of the incident, Adams brought a floral offering to an altar created by grieving families and expressed solidarity with the Dominican community.

The visit held deep significance, as New York hosts the largest Dominican population outside the Dominican Republic. Mayor Adams, dressed in a white shirt and wearing a mourning ribbon, was accompanied by Dominican-born Ana Almanzar, Deputy Mayor for Strategic Initiatives, and the Dominican Consul in New York, Jesús “Chú” Vásquez.

Almanzar shared her sorrow over returning to her homeland under such tragic circumstances. The mayor’s agenda includes meetings with Dominican officials, affected families, and members of both the local and diaspora communities to offer support and coordinate responses.

Strategic play, nothing but a political move. Dominicans make up the largest Latino population in NYC, he’s just trying to secure votes and gain approval from the Dominican-American community to secure his seat at City Hall.
