Dominican government launches nationwide security operation for Holy Week 2025

Santo Domingo.- In a nationwide effort to protect citizens and prevent emergencies during Holy Week 2025, the Dominican Government launched the “Security and Prevention” operation this Tuesday, led by Vice President Raquel Peña. The initiative brings together over 25,000 National Police officers and 2,400 Armed Forces personnel, supported by 22 institutions under the Emergency Operations Center (COE).
The operation will focus on high-traffic zones such as tourist resorts, highways, transport terminals, religious centers, and public spaces. Its goal is to prevent incidents like traffic accidents, drownings, and alcohol or food-related poisonings through strategic patrols and quick-response teams. An expanded fleet of 4,577 patrol units and tow trucks, along with 12 vans equipped with real-time license plate scanners, will support on-the-ground efforts.
Officials emphasized the importance of solidarity, responsibility, and faith during this period. Police Director General Ramón Guzmán Peralta and Interior Minister Faride Raful both called for public cooperation, encouraging trust in law enforcement as protectors and allies. High-ranking defense and emergency officials were also present, reaffirming their commitment to ensuring a peaceful and safe Holy Week across the country.
